Influence of health education on exclusive breastfeeding in hospital among cesarean section maternal

Influence of health education on exclusive breastfeeding in hospital among cesarean section maternal

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of health education and breastfeeding knowledge on in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding among cesarean section maternal,in order to better improve the success rate of breastfeeding after cesarean section. Methods A total of 824 cesarean section maternals were collected.Self-administered questionnaires were used to collect information,including socio-demographic variables,in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding,health education on breastfeeding during pregnant and puerperal period as well as breastfeeding knowledge of cesarean section maternal. Results The prevalence rate of in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding among cesarean section maternal was 64.7%.There were 80.3% and 93.8% respondents accepting health education before hospitalization and health education in hospital.But only 32.9% of the respondents had good breastfeeding knowledge.After adjustment for socio-demographic information,the odds of in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding was high among cesarean section maternal who received pre-hospital health education ≥4 times (OR=2.27,95%CI:1.50~3.42) and in-hospital breastfeeding education ≥4 times (OR=3.75,95%CI:2.02~6.97).And having good breastfeeding knowledge (OR=3.39,95%CI:2.17~5.28) were positively associated with in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding among cesarean section maternal. Conclusion Providing a comprehensive system of in-hospital breastfeeding propaganda and education and strengthening the breastfeeding knowledge are important strategies for promoting exclusive breastfeeding among cesarean section maternal.
