Prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in Chinese children from 2010 to 2016:a meta-analysis

Prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in Chinese children from 2010 to 2016:a meta-analysis

Abstract

Objective To estimate the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in China. Methods Studies from CNKI,Wanfang data,VIP and PubMed databases on related prevalence of ASD in Chinese between 2000 and 2016 were searched.Data were collected to estimate the prevalence by STATA 12.0 software.Subgroups analysis were conducted by gender and residence that may affect the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder. Results A total of 21 studies were included in this study.The total number of participants investigated was 215 700,including 462 patients.The estimated pooled prevalence of ASD was 0.24%(95%CI:0.18～0.29).The prevalence of ASD in male [0.35%(95%CI:0.26~0.44)] was significantly higher than that in female [0.07%(95%CI:0.05~0.10)](χ² =116.303,P＜0.001).There was no significant difference between the prevalence of urban (0.17%,95%CI:0.08~0.26) and rural areas (0.09%,95%CI:0.05~0.12)(χ²=1.686,P=0.200 4). Conclusion Prevalence of ASD in Chinese children shows a general trend.It is suggested that high-quality survey should be conducted to provide basic information and strong evidence for ASD prevention,treatment and further research in other aspects.
