Serum uric acid level of 3~6 years old children in urban Tianjin and the suggested reference range

Serum uric acid level of 3~6 years old children in urban Tianjin and the suggested reference range

Abstract

Objective To investigate the serum uric acid level and its distribution in children aged 3~6 years in urban Tianjin,and to explore the reference range of serum uric acid for healthy pre-school children. Methods 26 kindergartens involving 4 083 children aged 3~6 years were randomly selected from the urban Tianjin.Serum uric acid was tested using the peripheral blood from right leech-finger. Results 1)The average level of serum uric acid was (243.0±52.8) μmol/L.There were significant differences of serum uric acid level between sex,age and body mass index(BMI).Serum uric acid levels boys,children aged 5~6 years old,and children with obesity/overweight had higher serum uric acid levels than girls,children aged 3~4 years,and children with normal weight,respectively.2)Normal weight and overweight children were selected to develop the reference range for healthy children,stratified by age and sex.The reference ranges of serum uric acid level are (240.8±101.1)μmol/L for 3~4 years old boys,(236.0±105.4) μmol/L for 3~4 years old girls,(244.1±101.4) μmol/L for 5~6 years old boys,and (236.5±98.6) μmol/L for 5~6 years old girls,respectively. Conclusion sSex,age and BMI may affect children's serum uric acid level.Reference range of serum uric acid for healthy children by different age and sex would give suggestions for clinical practice.
