A review on development of children of parents with severe mental illness

Abstract

Children of parents with severe mental illness is at risk for mental illness or behavioural disorder.However,a significant number of children show resilience and successful adaptation because of some protective factors.Adverse outcomes in children and adolescents are often the result of interaction between parents' mental illness and various factors,and the mechanisms are multidimensional,including a broad range of temperament/heritability and psychosocial factors.This article reviews the recent findings and points the limitation and future research topics based Chinese cultural background.
