Objective To investigate the current situation of Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior Model(KAB) of women in breastfeeding period on preserving breastmilk in Nanjing city. Methods A total of 210 women with breastmilk were randomly recruited in child health care clinic of Jiangsu Province Hospital during the period of April,2013-May,2013,and collected their general information, their present state of KAB on preserving breastmilk. Results 80.49% subjects obtained some knowledge relative to preserving breastmilk from the internet and hospitals.62.27% subjects considered 24 hours as the acceptable longest cold storage time.44.85% subjects considered 1 month as the acceptable longest freeze storage time.47.8% subjects experienced breastmilk preservation,of which 54.17% didn't reuse the stored breastmilk, because of worrying the reduced nutrients, contamination and nauseous taste. The educated degrees and feeding patterns of subjects were significantly correlated with the KAB on the breastmilk preservation. Conclusions Breastmilk is generally stored by ways of cold and freeze model, and the reuse rate of them is quite low.For elevating the rate, more effective knowledge propagation on breastmilk preservation to vast pregnant and delivery women are necessary.
