Abstract

Objective To investigate the psychological behavior and related family factors in children with idiopathic epilepsy, and to explore the association between psychological behavior and related family factors. Methods A total of 35 epilepsy children and 35 health control children were included and evaluated with the Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS),Self-rating depression scale(SDS),Family Environment Scale-Chinese Version (FES-CV) and Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran(EMBU).Moreover, the associations between psychological behavior and family factors were analyzed. Results A significant higher ratio of abnormal behavior was found in children with epilepsy than health control (P<0.01).A significant increasing of parental anxiety and depression (P<0.05),decreased degree of intimacy, expressed emotion and entertainment, and increased family conflict and control were found in children with epilepsy. Moreover, parental rearing pattern showed that emotional warmth score was significantly lower in epilepsy children than health children (P<0.05).The correlation analysis showed that a positive association was found between parental depression score and total psychological behavior scores in children with epilepsy (r=0.36,P<0.05). Conclusion A significant higher risk of abnormal psychological behavior could be found in children with epilepsy, and the family factor could be one of the incentives.
